Fastest: from the pre-debit alert

  1. RBI rules require the bank to send a pre-debit notification (SMS/email) before each recurring card charge.
  2. That alert usually has a link to view or cancel the e-mandate: use it.

From your bank

  1. Log in to net banking or the bank's app → Cards → Manage standing instructions / e-mandates / recurring payments (some banks use a portal called SI Hub).
  2. Select the merchant → Cancel / Deregister.
  3. Or call the card helpline and ask them to cancel the e-mandate for that merchant.

Last resort

  1. If the merchant keeps charging after you cancelled, ask the bank to block that merchant or to reissue the card. Dispute any charge made after cancellation within the bank's dispute window.
Good to know: International dollar subscriptions (ChatGPT, Claude, Cursor, GitHub...) are often card-on-file charges rather than RBI e-mandates. Cancel them inside the service first: bank-side cancellation may not catch them.

How it shows on your bank statement

Look for lines like these in your bank, credit card or UPI history:

Also stop the auto-debit

Cancelling inside the service is the main step. If you paid with UPI AutoPay, a card standing instruction or a NACH mandate, check that the mandate is gone too.
