Close the underlying product first
- Loan EMI: the mandate is cancelled when the loan is closed. Ask the lender for a closure letter and NACH cancellation.
- SIP: stop the SIP on the fund platform (Groww, Zerodha Coin, Kuvera, the AMC site); the mandate can stay registered without debiting.
- Insurance: stop auto-pay with the insurer, or the policy may lapse.
Then cancel the mandate itself
- Many banks show NACH / e-mandates in net banking under Mandates, e-NACH or Auto-debit.
- Otherwise submit a mandate cancellation request at the branch or through the company that registered it (they must forward it to NPCI).
Good to know: Never stop an EMI mandate while the loan is still running: bounced EMIs carry penalties and hurt your CIBIL score. Bounce charges also apply to SIP mandates if your balance is short.
How it shows on your bank statement
Look for lines like these in your bank, credit card or UPI history:
ACH D- TP ACH BAJAJFINANCE-123456NACH DR / ICCL-MUTUAL FUNDECS/LIC OF INDIA
Also stop the auto-debit
Cancelling inside the service is the main step. If you paid with UPI AutoPay, a card standing instruction or a NACH mandate, check that the mandate is gone too.
